About Our Foundation
Our Heritage
The Cape Tercentenary Foundation was established in 1950 through the visionary leadership of Edward and Harry Molteno, distinguished pioneers of the Cape fruit industry. Their profound appreciation for literature, music, theatre, and the natural environment led them to establish "a fund for the cultural development of Cape Town." Their initial contribution of £2500 was strategically allocated to the Cape Town Orchestra, the South African Public Library, and the Chamber Music Society.
Our Mission
The Foundation was conceived with a clear and ambitious mission: to preserve, promote, and encourage literature, the visual and performing arts, and the natural and cultural environment across the Western, Eastern, and Northern Cape Provinces. This mission continues to guide our work today.
Our Evolution
Initially known as The Cape Tercentenary Foundation, the organization later became The Cape 300 Foundation. In 2019, reflecting our commitment to progress and relevance, we underwent a strategic rebranding to become The Khula Cape Foundation, embracing a name that better represents our forward-thinking approach while honoring our heritage.
